Altinkum
Altinkum means “golden sand”. There are three fine sandy beaches on the beautiful turquoise blue Aegean Sea. The main beach in Altinkum (often referred to as First Beach) is a large shallow bay of golden sand making it very popular with families.
Altinkum has grown directly behind the beautiful sandy beaches. Didim is the name of the local town. Most of the people working in Altinkum speak English and the centre of the resort is full of restaurants and bars which mainly cater to the British palate. Altinkum is a lively destination with plenty to do night and day. It is a busy resort which has attracted the British holiday-maker and now the British property buyer. There are many British families permanently living in Altinkum with English newspapers and numerous British owned businesses.
To the north of the local town lie the ruins of the famous Temple of Apollo. The Temple of Apollo is one of the most outstanding buildings of the ancient Greek world, not only in size but in architectural style. This ancient temple has been excavated since 1873, with wonderfully preserved inscriptions including the head of Medusa.
There are several supermarket chains such as Migros, Tansas and Gima making it easy for self-catering. The Saturday Bazaar in Didim is very popular with tourists and locals. Fresh fruits and vegetables, clothes, handbags, belts etc can all be purchased at a fraction of the cost elsewhere.
The sights of Ephesus, Pamukkale, and Bodrum are within a day trip. Soke market which is the largest traditional market in the area is 45 mins away.
The area has been designated a new Tourism Development area and a new marina is under way and a a golf course.
1hr from Kusadasi – 2 hrs from Izmir which is the third largest city in Turkey - 1.5 hrs to Bodrum airport. 2 hrs from Bodrum. There is a new road being built from Bodrum airport which should cut travelling time to approximately 45 minutes.
